I know a lot of people are saddened today by the passing of a well-loved celebrity to suicide. And a lot of people have questions and strong opinions about suicide.

I don’t have any answers to give – or any well formed philosophies that could paint a clearer picture of the depths of depression. But I have been there. And I know from first hand experience that God will pull you out from the depths and bring you back to the other side.

How do I know for sure? Well, some days I just have to HANG ON as tight as I can to these God-breathed words (below). Even when the emotions don’t match up. Even when I’m scared. Even when I have major doubts.

His plans are to prosper you.

To love you.

Give you endless hope.

Never to harm you.

To give you a glorious future.

For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your Holy one to rot in the grave. You will show me the way of life, granting me the JOY of your presence and the PLEASURE of living with you forever. {Psalm 16:10-11}

He promises that He WILL NOT leave us to rot in the grave.

He loves us right where we are, but TOO MUCH to leave us there.

I don’t understand all the aspects of depression. I don’t understand God’s plan and why some people have to suffer worse than others. When I start to analyze or question God’s ways, I have to remind myself what He says in Proverbs 3.

Just trust.

Lean not on my tiny feeble human understanding.

After all, He is the God that created the Universe from His infinite wisdom. I am not.

If God let us “in” on all of the answers to our questions and if He showed us the entire picture of our future – our tiny human brains wouldn’t be able to conceive or even handle it. Some things are better left to “understand” when we are standing with Him in eternity – and our souls are finally at peace with what happened while we were here on earth.

As much as we hurt for answers, some things are just better left in His hands.

All we have in this life are His Word, His promises, and a Hope in His unfailing Love.

But for today…

Take Heart.

Let His love lead us through the night.

Hold on to hope,

And take courage again.

The news of Robin Williams passing truly breaks my heart. As someone who has suffered from severe depression, it is so scary sometimes, it can take you to some unbelievably dark places and really make you lose hope in everything. I am so saddened that it became to much for him to handle anymore.

I hope that people will learn from what he went through, and not be afraid or embarrassed to get help. After my mom passed I ended up going into a treatment center for a week to get help. It without a doubt saved my life.

Thank you for writing such a beautiful and inspiring post!
